Dr. Giovanone is an Osteopathic Psychiatrist, board-certified in General Psychiatry, and is licensed to practice in MA. He began his career in the mental health field as a residential therapist in Burlington, Vermont over 20 years ago. Dr. Giovanone graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012 and completed his general psychiatry residency at Berkshire Medical Center where he was Chief Resident of Dual Diagnosis Services before graduating in 2016. He has worked at Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) as a staff psychiatrist on the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and in the Emergency Department.  He continues to work with individuals in his outpatient practice, providing treatment with combined medication and psychotherapy. Dr. Giovanone was Medical Director of the Crisis Stabilization Service at BMC which provides residential treatment to folks in early recovery from substance and alcohol use disorders. Dr. Giovanone supervises psychiatry residents at BMC and teaches classes in patient interviewing, borderline personality disorder, psychedelic assisted treatment, and psychiatric treatment with the combination of psychotherapy and medication management. He serves as an associate professor of psychiatry for Boston University Medical School, and also teaches medical students from UMass Medical School and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. His interests include treating substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and related illnesses, and personality disorders. Dr. Giovanone is interested in the emerging field of psychedelic psychiatry and is trained in MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD. He is one of the founding members of the Berkshire Psychedelic Community, which aims to bring legal and FDA approved psychedelic assisted therapy to Berkshire County.
