Dr. Sawaya is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of trauma, addiction, and relationship distress. Her approach is integrative, blending a rigorous foundation in evidence-based care with emergent, body-based therapies that honor the internal system. After a decade on the Psychiatry faculty at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Dr. Sawaya joined CMC in 2026. She utilizes advanced training in evidence-based trauma treatments including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and EMDR (Level I & II). She is a Level I trained Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioner and certified Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy provider through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, completed a pre-doctoral internship at the NY Harbor VA Medical Center- Manhattan campus, and a post-doctoral fellowship in PTSD and Substance Use Disorders at the San Francisco VA Medical Center.
