BOOKS
At CMC, we recognize that the treatment resources across this country are often limited and all too often not high quality or evidence based. Until the treatment landscape changes (which thankfully it is starting to do), we want as many people as possible to have access to evidence-based resources, regardless of their ability to pay, or where they live. As such, CMC has embraced the internet as one way we can help people gain access to high quality resources.
Podcasts
Join hosts Dr. Carrie Wilkens and Rev. Jan Brown in this 6-part series as they explore the complicated, and often life-altering, experience of loving someone struggling with substance use. Jan and Carrie will provide ways to approach the helping process that are grounded in the latest science, and their guests will share how real change happens for a family and the community around them.
For Friends & Family
As researchers and clinicians, we’ve seen plenty of evidence over the past 50 years that families and friends make a difference more than anyone else. We know that people struggling with addiction and other mental health issues get better and that loved ones—parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, partners, friends—can have a very positive effect on their motivation to change.
Useful Organizations
At CMC we believe there are various ways to create a support network when it comes to dealing with issues of substance abuse. We also think it is important to build connections over and beyond therapy and professional support. Since we know that one size does not fit all – we have the goal on this page of providing access to a variety of social media outlets.
Self-Help Meetings
Self-help groups are a wonderful way to get additional free support in reaching your goals and build community. Many organizations also have excellent on-line options. We recommend trying several as you never know what will resonate with you.
Invitation to Change
The Invitation to Change Approach® draws from CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to empower loved ones with a new understanding of substance use.
With a skills-oriented, compassionate outlook, the Invitation to Change Approach® works to reduce shame and stigma, while providing tools to foster growth and promote change.
COMMUNITY REINFORCEMENT AND FAMILY TRAINING (CRAFT)
CRAFT is a skills-based program for families of people who struggle with addiction. It is designed to support family members across multiple areas, including self-care, pleasurable activities, problem-solving, and goal-setting, while at the same time teaching behavioral and motivational strategies for interacting with their loved one and addressing resistance to change.

We have compiled many frequently asked questions about different topics including: residential treatment, outpatient treatment, for referrals, telehealth, trauma treatment and family services.
CMC:B Alumni community
We’re a group of CMC:B “graduates” who want to keep in touch with each other, support each other and hopefully even help others. Everything else, we’re figuring out as we go!
Guided Meditations
Mindfulness is the practice of staying present and aware without judgment, helping you respond to life with intention rather than habit. It’s been shown to reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional well-being.
