Telehealth and Teletherapy Services

At CMC, we offer a variety of individual and group therapy services via telehealth or teletherapy.

Telehealth 2 (1)

What is Telehealth Treatment?

Telehealth is healthcare administered remotely or virtually, using communication tools such as messaging and audio or video calls. It is essentially therapy conducted outside the therapy office. All that is required is a quiet location and access to a phone or computer. We provide telehealth and teletherapy services in our outpatient programs.

With CMC Telehealth, we merge science and kindness and deliver it through simple online methods. We offer individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy sessions tailored to your unique needs.

Why Should I Consider Telehealth or Teletherapy? Benefits of Telehealth and Teletherapy

If you want expert substance use and mental health treatment but do not have access to in-person services due to your geographic location or scheduling limitations, telehealth could be a good option for you.

Telehealth solutions are as effective in treating substance use and mental health issues as in-person treatment. You can enjoy telehealth benefits such as:

Convenience and Privacy

Our telehealth services allow you to access outpatient treatment without commuting or stepping away from work or family demands for in-person appointments. Many of our clients have privacy concerns due to their jobs or general concerns about the stigma associated with substance use and mental health issues. You can meet our clinicians through telehealth technology from the privacy of your home or office.

Remote Access to Skilled Therapists

Accessing expert, personalized support from industry leaders is now easier than ever, as you can reach us from the comfort of your home. Our expert psychotherapists are available through telehealth services in New York, California, and all the states under the PSYPACT. Look up your state.

Our telehealth team is intensively trained in diverse treatment approaches that have been tested over many years and discovered to be the most effective in addressing substance use and mental health issues. We work with you to understand your values and goals and teach you effective skills to achieve them.

Our family services are provided by clinicians trained by our co-founders, Drs. Foote, Wilkens, and Kosanke, co-authors of the award-winning book Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change. Everyone on our team strives to empower family members to help a struggling loved one make positive lasting changes by teaching them skills found in our Invitation to Change approach outlined in The Beyond Addiction Workbook for Family and Friends: Evidence-Based Skills to Help a Loved One Make Positive Change.

Our telehealth services allow you to access this highly sought-after expertise even if you don’t live close to specialized services.

Flexibility

Our telehealth services allow you to access outpatient treatment with limited disruption to your ability to meet your daily responsibilities. You don’t have to worry about the commute, traffic, or parking. You can also get support while traveling or during vacations, which are often high-risk times when maintaining behavioral change.

Increasing Connection

Even though science shows that connection and a sense of belonging are often critical to making lasting behavioral changes, we live in a society that stigmatizes those struggling with substance use and mental health issues. As a result, many people avoid treatment and become increasingly isolated due to feelings of shame or guilt.

Our CMC telehealth services allow a high degree of privacy since you can access our services from your home or office.

Personalized Virtual Support Groups

At CMC, we understand one size does not fit all. One of the clearest pieces of evidence regarding behavioral change is that people decide to make changes for different reasons and in different ways. Our telehealth services include various groups to meet your needs, including skills groups (abstinence-focused and harm reduction), process groups, and specific content groups. Our clinicians will help you find the best group to meet your needs within our vibrant online community.

Convenient Family Involvement

The family and friends of those who struggle with substance use disorders also struggle emotionally, physically, and financially. They often want to help but don’t know how to go about it, and when they do try to help, they are given labels like codependent or enabler or told they need to distance themselves for their loved one to get better.

At CMC, we know that research repeatedly shows the power of family involvement. When given effective tools, families can be critical in supporting positive change, facilitating treatment engagement, and advocating for their loved ones.

Our telehealth services allow family members of all types: spouses/partners, parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. to work with our team of clinicians trained in CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) and our Invitation to Change approach, a unique and powerful blend of evidence-based strategies and practices that help family members lessen the tension, conflict, and heated emotions that have often taken hold while improving collaboration and encouraging change.

In telehealth sessions, family members can learn skills included in our book Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change, and the companion workbook, The Beyond Addiction Workbook for Family and Friends: Evidence-Based Skills to Help a Loved One Make Positive Change.

Telehealth services can help concerned family members and friends work with a CMC therapist trained in CRAFT and ITC. We often recommend weekly sessions at first to jumpstart the learning curve. However, we individualize treatment to the specific needs of each family, which can mean more or less frequent sessions or the option to work with a therapist for a longer period.

Family members can also access group support through our telehealth services. Our monthly telehealth family member group is an opportunity for family members to learn about a specific ITC-related topic and to share their experiences, ask questions, and discuss helpful strategies. Groups are held on the first Monday of the month, 6 pm – 7 pm (click here for details and to sign up in advance). Come monthly or when the topic is of particular interest.
