Dr. Fonseca is a multilingual licensed clinical psychologist who earned her doctorate from New York University and has been working in the field for over thirty years. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the psychiatric inpatient unit of Roosevelt Hospital (currently, Mount Sinai West) and at Smither’s (currently, The Addiction Institute) working with clients struggling with psychiatric and substance use disorders. Prior to joining CMC, Dr. Fonseca was a staff psychologist at North Central Bronx Hospital working with HIV-positive clients and their extended families, in particular a network of Latina grandmothers caretaking their grandchildren. Dr. Fonseca specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, having extensive experience in both group and individual modalities. In addition Dr. Fonseca has worked with trauma assessment and treatment for many years and is certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation). Dr. Fonseca is a member of the American Psychological Association and has been working at CMC:Berkshires since its inception in February 2014.
