The goal of this course is to provide you with an overview of evidence based approaches to the treatment of substance use disorders. We will be exploring:

  • An overview of the basic principles of Evidence-Based Treatments from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and more.

  • An in-depth introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI).

  • Information on how to treat co-occurring disorders such as PTSD, OCD, and other mood disorders.

  • Using Evidence-Based techniques to help family members.

  • What pharmacological interventions can help with substance use disorders.

  • When is the class held?

    The course will be held on six consecutive Tuesday nights from 7-9pm EST. Dates are May 31, June 7, 14, 21, 28, and July 5. All sessions are recorded and available for viewing after the fact.

  • Is this all online, or can I attend in person?

    At this time, the entire course is held online.

  • Will there be space for questions?

    Yes, if you attend the live class, you will be able to ask questions to the presenters during the course. You will also be able to email and interact with the presenters if you want.

  • Can I keep my camera off?

    After having run this virtually several times now, we have realized that it is very important for both the participants and the presenters that everyone have their cameras on for the duration of the course. We understand that there are sometimes extenuating circumstances that make it difficult for someone to keep their camera on. If you have an issue, please feel free to contact us for accommodations.

  • Are there readings and homework?

    There are readings, which are provided to you. There is no homework for this course.
